Polish Visa Information

Poland belongs to the Schengen States.  Citizens of many countries are not required a visa when entering Poland.



Krakow has got a very convenient connections with many countries by air. The airport Balice is situated about 15 km far from City center. It is also possible to fly to Warsaw and take the train (about 2,5 hour) or airplane to Krakow; the railway main station is situated about 1 km from the Holiday Inn.



Typical for Krakow and the surrounding area temperate climate transition is characterized by frequent changes in weather, because the Polish clash with dry air masses from the Eurasian continent and humid from the Atlantic.

The local climate in Krakow is also shaped by its very favorable geographical location - in a valley between the Carpathians and upland areas and in the valley of the Vistula. The frequent occurrence of fog (approx. 60 days per year) and large changes in atmospheric pressure has to be considered.

The average temperature in September is between 8°C and 18°C, the number ofhours of sunshine is about 6-7 a day. The reinfalls – 15 days a month and totally 65 mm. Last years the temperature was much higher. In 2016 the temperature during the day will reach 22-23°C.

Polish zloty (sign: zl; code: PLN), is the official currency of the Republic of Poland. It is divided into 100 grosz. The exchange rate May 2016 is about: 1USD = 3,90 zl; 1€ = 4,45 zl. The exchange rate is a subject to be changed.

Exchange rates



The electrical supply is 230 volts, 50Hz. If you travel to Poland with a device that does not accept 230 Volts at 50 Hz, you will need a voltage converter. Outlets in Poland accept round plugs. If your appliances plug has a different shape, you may need a plug adapter.



Polish is the language used in Poland, however in many restaurants, shops English can be used. English will be the official language for the Conference.

Mobile phones network is available at the most area of the country.

Most branches have 24 hour automatic teller machines (ATM).



There are several markets, super- and hiper- markets in Krakow, as well as small shops. The opening hours are in general:

Monday – Friday 10:30am (8:00 am)– 8:00pm (10:00 pm)
Saturday 10:00am (8:00 am) - 3:00pm
Sunday 10:00am - 6:00pm

Hours vary at smaller shopping centers and in the nearby cities.



A sales tax of 23% applies to the most consumer goods, and is included in retail prices. 



Service charges are not added to accounts by hotels and restaurants. Some restaurants add the service charge – check at the bill! You may tip hotel porters and restaurant wait-staff (up to 10% of the bill) if you wish to acknowledge exceptional service. Tipping is your choice.



From the airport

The Conference does not provide any transfers from the airport to the Conference venue or hotels. All delegates must make their own transport arrangements from the airport. There is a train from Balice airport to the Main Railway Station in Krakow, from which to the conference venue and most of the hotels is about 1 km.


Public Transport

Krakow public transportation includes tram lines and city buses. Totally there are about 100 routes, including night buses Bus timetables are available from http://www.mpk.krakow.pl/en/page-70cdbe44/



Krakow has many taxi companies which can be accessed by phone bookings or from designated ranks that are clearly signposted throughout the city. Prices on the web site:

The hotel is conveniently located at Wielopole Street 4, near to the city downtown. About 50-100 m from the hotel the TRAM stops of lines 1, 2, 3, 4, 10, 18, 20, 24, 52, 62, 69 are situated. There are different type of tickets: single, time tickets (from 20 min up to 72 hours or 7 days). Fares: single ticket – about $1, 7 d ticket – about $14.


Balice Airport (Krakow)

From the airport do the city center you can travel by city or private buses and by taxis. It takes from 50 min by bus to 30 min by taxi. Prices of the taxi (http://www.krktaxi.pl/) varies from 70 zl ($ 20) to 90 zl ($ 25). Bus ticket – 4 zl ($ 1,1)
