Wieliczka Salt Mine Tour

The medieval Wieliczka Salt Mine is one of the most valuable monuments of material and spiritual culture in Poland. This 700-year-old Salt Mine lies close to Krakow, just 15 km away from the city centre. It is also a world class monument, featuring on the UNESCO World Cultural and Natural Heritage List. This deposit of rock salt in Wieliczka has been mined since the 13th century and is the oldest of its type in Europe. Spread over nine levels, it has 300 km of galleries with works of art, underground chapels and statues sculpted in the salt, making a fascinating pilgrimage into the past of a major industrial undertaking. The Wieliczka Salt Mine illustrates the historic stages of the development of mining techniques in Europe, from the 13th to the 20th centuries. Wieliczka Saltworks Castle, used for the management of the property, dates from the medieval period and has been rebuilt several times in the course of its history.

The tour includes: transportation from the Holiday Inn Hotel*****, English, French or German speaking guide, entrance ticket, lunch, short break for shopping inside the mine, making photos or using video camera – extra paid.
